Rain,
rain that is all we have been getting. We might get one day where the
yard start to dry up and then it rains again. My lawn is greening up
but it is so wet out side it is hard to find the time with my busy
schedule to work on it when it is not raining. Then on top of the
rain it does not want to warm up so that means a fire in the wood
stove to take the chill off.
Spring
is here with all of the birds returning to the feeders, the peepers
are out and that is a good sign that spring has arrived. The pussy
willows have gone by but the Mayflowers are starting to show up.
I will have to check on one place to see if they are blooming.
My
dad use to pick a small bouquet for my mom every year. There was a
spot in the woods by the homestead where they grew and I imagine
that they are still there. Another flower is the Trillium that is one
of the first to be found in the spring. I know of a place that had
many of them growing every year, and I wonder if they are still
there.
I
have been out and about this past week for appointments; Carroll had
an appointment in Ellsworth on Monday, than I had to make a quick
trip there again on Wednesday for him.
On
Thursday I had a dental appointment in Lubec and Friday I had to
travel to Nobleboro to pick up the Milbridge students that had been
spending a couple of days at Camp Keive. On Saturday Kevin Rice and I
drove the 4thgraders from SAD #37 to the Circus in Bangor.
I
met up with some friends Alice and Dick Trott and their grandchildren
while at the circus. I also saw a few others that I knew that were
working there.
While
I was out on Thursday I stopped by at the Heritage Center at the
Courthouse in Machias to do some research. It was a productive
afternoon for me as I found some more information on what I was
looking for.
Don’t
forget that you need to put in your moose permit application before
May 15th if you want a chance on getting a moose
permit to hunt this fall.
Dick
Grant at the Veterans home in Machias had visitors over the weekend,
Sherry and Dick Paul of Addison had a nice visit with him. While they
were there he received a May basket from a young lady.
May
baskets are almost a thing of the past. I remember my mother making
them and my siblings and I would take them to the families on Epping
Corner and to others we knew in town.
I
started that same tradition with mine but only with the two older
children, it seems that when the fifth child came along I did
not have time to do it. I did give out a couple a few years ago to
some older folks that I knew. That was fun as one couple had no idea
who left it at their door till many months later. Did you know you
can give May flower baskets anytime during the month of May not just
on the first?
Condolences go
out to the following families :Norman Dakin’s family of Addison,
Wayne Hurlbert's family of Harrington and Carl Rudelitch's family of
Harrington/Mass. They all will be missed by their families.
Thinking
of you wishes go out to Wayne Crowley who is now in hospice care.
