March 11, 2012
. The Historical Societies are beginning to start up their meetings for the season. Pleasant River Historical Society has changed their monthly meeting to the third Mondays of the months. The next one will be March 19 at Tim and Mary Thompson home in South Addison. Beals will hold their first program with a talent/variety show on April 7th at the Beals Gym starting at 6:30 PM. Town meeting time is here again. The month of March is when most of our towns have their annual Town Meetings. Some of the towns also put on their famous bake bean suppers the same evening, so that while everyone is out and about they can eat and then attend the town meeting. Addison will hold their meeting on the 13 of this week, Columbia will be on March 19, and Columbia Falls will be on March 20. Early Saturday morning Donna Tomkiewick’s home on the Webb District Road in Columbia burned. The cause of the fire could have been a light bulb being used as a heat source for some stray cats that she was taken care of. I understand that the State Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating the fire. What a devastating loss this must be for anyone to lose a home and their animals.
Get well wishes go out to Corey Worcester who is struggling in the hospital; his parents have been by his side every day. Will Whiles is still recuperating, with Clara Driscoll by his side every day. Molly Woodsum is now home from the hospital and gaining every day.<
Our sincere condolences to the family of Ansel Rockwell, 1918-2012, another cousin of mine has left us on my mother’s side of the family.
Tracey & Mike Peterson have moved their family to a home on Mill Street in Harrington over the weekend. They had several friends that were able to help them move their belongings from their home in Cherryfield to this one. It is always nice to have friends to help out. I my self dropped by and helped out in putting things away in their kitchen. I also made a picture gallery in their huge hallway with most of their photos of their families. Every little bit of help will make their home homier. The children were quite excited over having their own bedrooms.
On Sunday Carroll and Zachary Strout were in Orono for the 74th Eastern Maine Sportsmen’s Show at the University in Maine.
Order of the Eastern Star Alcyone Chapter #71 held their first meeting of this year on Thursday evening at the Masonic Lodge in Milbridge. The pot luck supper held before the meeting was delicious. The installation ceremony of new officers will be held on Saturday April 7 in the afternoon followed by the stated meeting on April 12. All members of the Order are welcome.
Mark your calendar as I just heard that a spring Book Fair will be held on April 1st at DW Merritt School in Addison.
The Bohemian Bakery opened for the season this week and they have a new menu on sandwiches. I have tried one of them already and found it to be delicious. .
